First off, I'd like to thank each and every person that showed their support by being at the streaming last night. The EVO stream was amazing. We managed to raise a bit of cash for Andre's medical bills, along with having a great time. Beer and pizza were on site, which were made short work of.

The caliber of the top 32 matches were unprecedented with some new faces this year along with old ones. Everyone's attention was fixed on the screen as each major match went down, concluded by a roar of claps and cheers as each favorite player struck the winning blow to advance to top 8. Even though we were not in attendance this year in Vegas, we saw every match as if we were right there on the Grand Ballroom floor of Caesars palace.

With a Top 8 far divided between American and international players, it will be interesting to see if the last 3 American players (Flash Metroid, Wolfkrone, Latif) can overcome the increasingly overwhelming competition this year. Japan having players Daigo "The Beast" Umehara, Tokido, Fuudo, and Kindevu, now holds a majority presence in the tournament. Poongko "The Machine" stands alone as a fan favorite and the only remaining Korean player that hasn't been eliminated.

The top 8 results are courtesy of Shoryuken.com, which has been the staple location of EVO coverage throughout this weekend. Results for the MK9 results day 1 can also be found here.

Stay tuned as Day 2 (today) will be Marvel vs Capcom 3 pools and semi finals. Day 3 will be the finals for all games (SSFIV AE, MvC3, MK9). Main picture is courtesy of Kineda.com
